Mother's Day is Coming

a poem by Constance Smith

Mother's Day is coming -
One of the hardest days of the year
because "Happy mother's day, mommy!"
Are words I do not deserve to hear.

I made a choice
A long time ago
What I thought was best
But then how could I know
The heartache it would bring
And how deep it would sting
Because I said,
"Take my child, I will be better off this way."

Mother's Day is coming -
One of the hardest days of the year
Because "Happy mother's day, mommy"
Are words I do not deserve to hear.

I watch from a distance
A mother and her son
She holds him close,
Her darling little one.
But my arms are empty,
My child is not with me;
He is gone.
Oh how I long to embrace my dear son!

Still often it hurts;
I have a wounded soul.
But I have asked Jesus to forgive me
And He is making me whole.

When I get to heaven
I know that I will see
My son whom I miss so much
And he will say to me,
"Hello Mommy.
I have been waiting many years
To see you. I am so glad that you are here!"

Mother's day is coming
One of the best days of the year
Because "happy mother's day, mommy!"
I will be glad to hear.

Yes, mother's day is coming -
One of the best days of the year!
